Gang Rinpoche, located in the northern Bagar Village of Pulan County in the western region of Tibet in Ali, with its center near 81.3° 176' east longitude and 31° 176' north latitude. Gang Rinpoche is the main peak of the Gangdise Mountains, the highest peak of the western section of the Gangdise Mountains (spanning between the northern Kunlun Mountains and the southern Himalayas), and one of the four sacred mountains in Tibetan Buddhism. It is also recognized as the "center of the world" by Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, the original Tibetan religion of Bon, and the ancient Gnostic religion.
Gang Rinpoche is 6714 meters above sea level, with its mountain body composed of recently formed sandstone and conglomerate. It is a steep mountain peak with a conical shape like a "golden pyramid." The Pulan County where Gang Rinpoche is located belongs to the subalpine arid climate zone with plants such as the high-mountain willow and the cinnabar. The main wild animals are wild blue sheep, wild yaks, wild donkeys, ibex, antelopes, wild goats, wolves, lynxes, snow leopards, black-necked cranes, snow chickens, mallards, pigeons, wild oxen, mountain goats, snow leopards, and golden eagles, with about 10,000 heads (or individuals).
Gang Rinpoche was selected as one of China's ten most beautiful mountains by the magazine "National Geographic China".
The 1999 Mysterious Event of Mount Gang Rinpoche refers to a mysterious event that took place in 1999 regarding Mount Gang Rinpoche. In the Tibetan local area, Mount Gang Rinpoche is considered to be a sacred mountain and not to be climbed. However, in that year, four mountain climbers determinedly climbed the mountain, although they were successful, two years later, these people rapidly aged and died from illness within a short period of time, the cause of which is unknown and very mysterious.
1.Why is Gang Rinpoche called the Sacred Mountain?
"Viewing the peak of Mount Gongrinpoche from afar, it looks very much like a pyramid, and there are also many small mountains around it that resemble small pyramids. There is always a layer of clouds like a protective cover on the top of the peak, and the summit is always surrounded by white clouds. The top of the mountain is also snow-covered all year round, giving a mysterious feeling and a strong visual experience from any angle."
2.The mysterious legends surrounding Mount Gang Rinpoche.
There is an ancient legend that in religious mythology, the god of all gods, Sipa, lives on Mount Gong rinpoche. Because it is the dwelling place of the great gods, the plants and creatures around it grow in reverence to the gods. Tibetan Buddhism also believes that the mountain is inhabited by great gods, making Gong rinpoche a sacred and holy land of outstanding people and spirits. As a mysterious treasure land, local people believe that any kind of invasion is not allowed. Therefore, no one dares to offend this mountain and they worship it devoutly. Many people say that the 1999 mysterious event in Gong rinpoche was because the climbers angered the spirits and were punished as a result.
3.Why is Mount Gang Rinpoche so mysterious?
There have been many mysterious events associated with Gong Rinpoche Mountain, such as some people seeing the mountain peak as golden or resembling a palace. These can likely be explained by science, but due to the religious significance of the mountain, it is now prohibited to climb. Nevertheless, myths are just that, and it's believed that someday these mysterious events will have a perfect scientific explanation.
